Nestled in the heart of Honolulu, On Dong Chinese Restaurant offers a distinctive and mouthwatering experience that beautifully blends Chinese and Korean culinary traditions. Located at 1499 S King St, this Korean-Chinese gem is a beloved spot for locals and visitors seeking something beyond the usual Asian fare.
Step inside, and you’re greeted by a lively yet unpretentious dining atmosphere where the friendly buzz of conversation mingles with the enticing aromas of sizzling spices and savory sauces. The ambiance reflects the authentic spirit of the cuisine—comforting, vibrant, and full of character.
The menu is a treasure trove of flavors that will excite any adventurous eater. Signature dishes like Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), which customers rave as “the best,” showcase the restaurant’s mastery of deep, rich sauces perfectly coating chewy noodles. For those craving something hearty and aromatic, the Mongolian Beef and Cold Noodles with Seafood in Soup provide a comforting balance of tender meat and fresh seafood melded with expertly crafted broths.
Seafood lovers will delight in dishes such as the Spicy Seafood Soup and the enticing Noodles and Seafood Blackbean Sauce, where each bite bursts with layers of umami and subtle heat. The 탕수육 (Sweet and Sour Pork), a crispy pork chop glazed in a sticky, tangy sauce, is a must-try classic, expertly executed to achieve a satisfying crunch followed by a succulent interior.
Vegetable dishes like the Stir Fried Choi Sum and Assorted Vegetable Stir Fry provide a fresh, crisp contrast to the richer meat and noodle selections, ensuring a balanced meal. Not to be overlooked are the variety of banchan side dishes—kimchi, daikon, and black sesame paste among them—that add complexity and authenticity to the dining experience.
Patrons often praise the staff’s warm professionalism and efficiency, even during busy times when the restaurant hums with eager diners. While Jennifer Lin notes the focus is on speedy service rather than elaborate attention, the kitchen’s dedication to delivering consistently delicious food shines through. Small thoughtful gestures like providing extra bowls and scissors for shared dishes, as mentioned by Ben Park, only underscore the welcoming hospitality of On Dong.
This vibrant spot has earned glowing praise from discerning food lovers like Cate Kim, who compares it to top Korean-Chinese eateries in New York City yet finds On Dong unmatched for its authentic flavors and consistency over the years. Robert Callahan’s delight in sampling a variety of dishes reflects the restaurant’s inviting menu diversity that encourages exploration and repeat visits.
Though parking can be a minor inconvenience—with nearby lots charging around $3 per hour—Reggie Hammond’s verdict is clear: this place is worth making regular stops for, a true highlight in Honolulu’s dining scene.
Whether you’re passionate about bold, spicy black bean noodles, crave the sweet-and-sour tang of 탕수육, or simply want to savor the harmony of Korean and Chinese flavors, On Dong Chinese Restaurant is a culinary destination that promises unforgettable meals and genuine local charm.

This was an amazing place to eat. Can't wait to make another trip out here. Food was delicious. Tried all sorts of different types of food. Just wish I could remember what I tried.
I started eating Korean style Chinese food since the 1970s. This place is GOOD. This going to be our regular place in Honolulu. I highly recommend it. Only issue is the paid parking lot, $2.99 per hour.
THE BEST CHINESE KOREAN FOOD! We are from NYC and tried almost all Chinese Korean food in NyC. This is by far the best! We tried jajangmeyon, jjamppong, tangsuyuk and shrimp ccampoongki. We came here a few times in 2022, 2023 and 2025. It hasn’t changed at all-still so delicious! The staffs are professional and friendly! Can’t wait to come back!
Black bean noodles are the best!! Must have. Dishes are good. Don’t expect too much service. Must finish eating fast. Always people are waiting. They speak Korean to all customers!! Just have to keep asking questions in English
After our dinner we stopped by this place and ordered one black noodle between two of us. They were very nice to give us a spare bowl and scissors! The food was awesome as well. I wish I was hungry.
If you often have cravings for Korean Chinese dishes like Jjamppong or Jajangmyeon, the On Dong restaurant will soon become one of your favorites. Staffed by Korean ajummas, the service is fast, attentive and efficient. The ambiance is simple, casual and comfortable. The dishes we often order are the Jajangmyeon, Jjamppong, Tangsuyuk, and fried mandoo (pot stickers). All of them are so addictive! On Dong has always satiated our need for authentic and delicious Korean Chinese food. We’ve been loyal customers of the Eastern Paradise restaurant for decades, but when the kind owners retired at the end of 2024, we thought we would struggle to find a new place to satisfy our Korean Chinese food cravings. To our pleasant surprise, On Dong consistently brought familiar nods, smiles and a contented silence to the table as we were so focused on savoring our tasty meals there. Dine-in or takeout, you’ll be glad you came by.
My go to when im craving seafood black noodle and sweet sour pork in Honolulu. Sign on the outside says Northern Chinese Cuisine but they serve kim chee, takuan and onions with black bean paste as starters. There are other similar restaurants in Oahu but this is the bestPortions and taste makes you come back for more, everything is served hot and right out of the kitchen. Parking can be tough during the day but evening free street parking is available. Service is adequate, when its busy you just have to flag them down. 5 stars
We got the seafood jjampong and jjajangmyeon. Both tasted amazing! All food came super fresh. We got free banchans too! It was a lovely tiny indoor space. The service was quick! They take cards for payment.
